スファレライトは硫化亜鉛の一種で、特別な鉱脈はいらず、鉛・亜鉛鉱山から採掘されます。
そのため古くから産出が確認されていましたが、あまり産業用途にも宝飾用途にも注目はされていなかったようです。また、硬度が低く加工が難しいのも特徴の一つです。
これぞスペインスファレの定番色。ちょっと珍しさのあるカボションカットです。

Sphalerite is a type of zinc sulfide that requires no special veins and is mined from lead-zinc deposits.
Therefore, while its occurrence has been known since ancient times, it seems to have received little attention for either industrial or jewelry applications. Its low hardness, making it difficult to process, is also one of its characteristics.
This is the classic color of Spanish sphalerite. It features a somewhat rare cabochon cut.
