スファレライトは硫化亜鉛の一種で、特別な鉱脈はいらず、鉛・亜鉛鉱山から採掘されます。
そのため古くから産出が確認されていましたが、あまり産業用途にも宝飾用途にも注目はされていなかったようです。また、硬度が低く加工が難しいのも特徴の一つです。
鮮やかなものが多い中、こちらはちょっとシックで落ち着いた色合い。インクルージョンもかなり少なめ、このようなスファレライトも良いですね！

Sphalerite is a type of zinc sulfide that doesn't require special veins and is mined from lead-zinc deposits.
Therefore, while its occurrence has been known since ancient times, it seems it wasn't particularly noted for industrial or jewelry applications. Another characteristic is its low hardness, making it difficult to process.
While many specimens are vivid, this one has a slightly chic and subdued color. It also has quite few inclusions—a sphalerite like this is quite nice!
