レッドスピネルは、美しい赤色に輝くことから1700年代までルビーと区別されずに扱われてきた宝石です。その美しさは、英国王室が所蔵する、戴冠式用の王冠の正面で輝く「黒太子のルビー」が実はレッドスピネルであったということからも、この同一視の歴史の一幕を垣間見ることができます。
よく流通しているものでピンクが見えることが多いのですが、こちらは完全にレッド一色です！

Red spinel is a gemstone that, due to its beautiful red luster, was treated indistinguishably from ruby until the 1700s. Its beauty is evident in the fact that the “Black Prince's Ruby,” which shines prominently on the front of the British Crown Jewels' coronation crown, was actually a red spinel—offering a glimpse into this history of being mistaken for ruby.
While commonly circulated specimens often show pink hues, this one is a pure, solid red!
