ギリシャ語でロードが『バラ』、クロが『色』、サイトが『石』という意味からなる、バラ色の宝石「ロードクロサイト」。「インカローズ」とも呼ばれ古代インカではお守りとされてきたそうです。ファセットカットのものは希少。
南アフリカの産地特徴としてこちらの個体のように赤みの強いサンセットオレンジが挙げられます。掲載している写真は少しオレンジが強く出ていますが、実物はもう少し赤いですね！
The gemstone “rhodochrosite” derives its name from the Greek words “rhodon” meaning “rose,” “chros” meaning “color,” and ‘lithos’ meaning “stone.” Also known as “Inca rose,” it was cherished as a talisman by the ancient Incas. Faceted specimens are rare.
A characteristic of South African varieties is their deep, reddish sunset orange color, as seen in this specimen. The photo shown here makes the orange appear a bit stronger than it actually is; the real thing is a little redder!
