「青色」を意味するラテン語の「sapphirus（サッピルス）」、ギリシャ語の「sappheiros（サピロス）」に由来する名で呼ばれ、蒼玉、青玉（せいぎょく）とも呼ばれる。 酸化アルミニウムの結晶で、モース硬度はダイヤモンドに次ぐ9。
一見、バイカラーとは少しわかりにくいほど鮮やかなブルーがしっかり出ていますが、パビリオン側から見るとはっきりとクリアとブルーのバイカラーになっています。また、写真以上に発色豊か、お仕立てにも良いサイズ感。
The name derives from the Latin “sapphirus” and Greek “sappheiros,” both meaning “blue,” and it is also called “blue jade” or “blue gemstone.” A crystalline form of aluminum oxide, it boasts a Mohs hardness of 9, second only to diamond.
At first glance, the vivid blue is so striking that it’s hard to tell it’s a two-tone design, but when viewed from the pavilion side, the clear and blue two-tone pattern becomes clearly visible. The color is even richer in person than in the photo, and the fit is just right.
