スミソナイトは亜鉛の炭酸塩鉱物で、カルサイト（方解石）グループに属する鉱物です。
かつては青銅や真鍮を作る際に必要な亜鉛をスミソナイトから得ていたのではないかと考えられているそうです。今でも亜鉛の鉱石として使われているといいます。
通常はカボションが流通していることが多いのでファセットカットは珍しいと思います。
Smisoneite is a zinc carbonate mineral belonging to the calcite group.
It is believed that in the past, the zinc needed to make bronze and brass may have been obtained from smisoneite. It is said that it is still used as a zinc ore today.
Since cabochons are usually the most common type on the market, I think faceted cuts are quite rare.
