ロードナイトの名前は、バラの花びらを想像させるような美しさから、ギリシャ語でバラを意味する「rhdon(ロドン)」に由来して名付けられました。和名は「薔薇輝石」。輝石の名前が使われているのですが、正しく「準輝石」に属するマンガン系の鉱物。
非常に希少な赤色が濃くまた透明度も高い個体、俗に「インペリアル」と呼ばれる高品質なものです。
The name "Rhodonite" derives from the Greek word "rhdon" (meaning "rose"), reflecting its beauty, which evokes the image of rose petals. Its Japanese name is "Bara-kisei" (Rose Pyroxene). Although the name "pyroxene" is used, it is actually a manganese-bearing mineral that belongs to the "pseudo-pyroxene" group.
High-quality specimens with a deep red color and high transparency are extremely rare and are commonly referred to as "Imperial."
