和名フォード石、アメリカの大手自動車メーカーの工場で自動車の塗装に用いられていたエナメル塗料が層を成し積み重なって出来たとされる半人工石。
デトロイトメノウの別名も持ちます。
ラメ入りの色も含めて何層にも層を成しています。しかもなかなか均一な層になっているのでとてもバランスの良いヴィジュアル。同じ柄が一つとして存在しない唯一無二感もあります。
また、裏面は表情がガラリと変わるのがこの石の面白いところですね。
Fordstone, also known as Detroit agate, is a semi-artificial stone formed by layers of enamel paint used in automobile painting at factories of a major American automaker.
It features multiple layers, including those with glitter. Moreover, the layers are remarkably uniform, creating a very balanced visual. Each piece possesses a unique pattern, giving it a one-of-a-kind feel.
Another interesting aspect of this stone is how its appearance changes dramatically on the reverse side.
