「青色」を意味するラテン語の「sapphirus（サッピルス）」、ギリシャ語の「sappheiros（サピロス）」に由来する名で呼ばれ、蒼玉、青玉（せいぎょく）とも呼ばれる。 酸化アルミニウムの結晶で、モース硬度はダイヤモンドに次ぐ9。
ティールサファイアとはバイカラーサファイアの一種ですが、色がまさに鴨の首の羽、その青味を帯びた濃い緑色が名前の由来です。
こちらは90年代初頭のオールドストックの原石を研磨した希少な非加熱個体です。シルキーさも混じって不思議な色合いです。
The name derives from the Latin “sapphirus” and Greek “sappheiros,” both meaning “blue,” and it is also called sapphire or blue jade. It is a crystalline form of aluminum oxide with a Mohs hardness of 9, second only to diamond.
Teal sapphire is a type of bicolor sapphire. Its name originates from its color, which resembles the feathers on a duck's neck—a deep green tinged with blue.
This is a rare, untreated specimen polished from an old stock rough stone from the early 1990s. It possesses a silky quality, creating a mysterious hue.
