「青色」を意味するラテン語の「sapphirus（サッピルス）」、ギリシャ語の「sappheiros（サピロス）」に由来する名で呼ばれ、蒼玉、青玉（せいぎょく）とも呼ばれる。 酸化アルミニウムの結晶で、モース硬度はダイヤモンドに次ぐ9。
ウインドウ有りですが、5mm以上の大きさがあるのでしっかり肉眼でも確認出来るローズカットがおしゃれ。蛍光も有り。
The name derives from the Latin “sapphirus” and Greek “sappheiros,” both meaning “blue.” It is also called sapphire or blue jade. It is a crystalline form of aluminum oxide with a Mohs hardness of 9, second only to diamond.
It features a window, but its rose cut is stylish and clearly visible to the naked eye due to its size of 5mm or larger. It also exhibits fluorescence.
