鉱物名、宝石名共にゾイサイト、和名を灰簾石(かいれんせき)や、ゆう簾石(ゆうれんせき)といいます。スロベニアの鉱物コレクター、ジグムント・ゾイス氏に由来して名付けられました。
タンザニア産でのみ産出されると思いがちですが、この個体のようにパキスタンでも出ます。そして青みがなく独特の色合いを持っています。内部の針状インクルージョンも魅力的です。

The mineral and gemstone are both called zoisite, with the Japanese names being gray zoisite (kairenseki) or blue zoisite (yūrenseki). It was named after the Slovenian mineral collector, Sigmund Zoys.
It is often thought to occur only in Tanzania, but specimens like this one are also found in Pakistan. They possess a unique coloration without any blue tint. The needle-like inclusions within are also quite attractive.
